Children’s Book School & Library Visit: Cock-A-Doodle Moooo!

About the Book
Let your imagination run free – create your own
menagerie! Enter a world where real animals are joined together in wondrous combinations. Inspired by ancient mythology, these hybrid animals are sure to dazzle your eyes, tickle your funny bone, and maybe lead you to some amazing creations of your own!
About the Author/Illustrator
Keith DuQuette was an impressionable child who at various times wanted to be a pet-shop owner, an architect, a painter, an anthropologist, a cartoonist, a naturalist, and a center fielder for the New York Yankees. He is now none of those things. But he draws on all these early influences in creating picture books.
My Presentation
A reading of the book is supplemented by a discussion using flashcard images featuring wild and wonderful animal combinations found in myths and legends from around the world. A question-and-answer segment is followed by an opportunity for the children to create their own imaginative animal combination. Using a worksheet with various real animals, students are prompted to create their own animal combination, place it in a setting, and give them a made-up name as part of a creative art and writing activity. At the end of the visit, the children will have an opportunity to share their wondrous animal creations with the group.
My presentation uses a slideshow format, which I believe is the best way to share my images and text with audiences of any size, whether in-person or online. I can customize my presentations to meet my audience’s needs, from 1st-grade to 5th-grade classes. My presentation length is 45-60 minutes per session.
